PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Dear Jade,

I met a really attractive man at one of those Asian American Professional events. Even though we just chatted about business, I would like to give him a hint that I am interested. I have his e-mail and would like to start it from that point. How should I let him know that I want to be more than just business associates? decision either. Please advise.

Emma

HE SAID:

Look, just e-mail the guy and ask him to dinner. The answer should give you plenty of indication of whether he's interested. If he says "yes", then wear something suitably sexy and go get him. A "no" should be a sufficiently obvious answer and you should never bother the man again. A "yes, but not until next week" means he's interested, but he's involved with someone else and she's in town this week but leaving for a business trip next week. Trust me, guys have one track minds and very little time to go to dinner with people we are not interested in (unless you're a potential client or a headhunter). A further note, does anyone really go to these Asian American Professional events to meet business associates? I think everyone just go to get dates, including this guy.

SHE SAID:

Just e-mail him, reintroduce yourself, let him know that you enjoyed meeting him, and see if he wants to get coffee, or a drink sometime, show up looking great (but appropriate), and FLIRT a bit, and be the charming, fun, witty, diva you are at heart. See if there are any sparks on his end, and if there are, and he is available for a relationship, let him ask you out for the next time. Just one note, if you are the one who pursues a guy and make the first move, it is then paramount that you find out if he is truly unattached. Not that you shouldn't always cover that base, but take extra caution when you are taking the active role.

BUT MAMA SAID:

Send him an e-mail and give him a hint by suggesting an activity that isn't really business related. Maybe an art opening or something.
